The Suva Marathon Club welcomed runners to the capital on Sunday 5th November for the Suva 10K from as far as Mana Island and Rakiraki’s Suncoast to enjoy some typical Suva weather! The committed teams and individual runners ran a 10km loop which took in Albert Park, Thurston Gardens and Queen Elizabeth Drive.
Suva Marathon Club regular Kiyo Akiha, won the men’s individual race with a time of 46:05 and Mana Island’s Nau Dakuiliga crossed first in the women’s individual 10km with a time of 51:27.
The Suva Marathon Club team – consisting of Kennol Narayan, Raj Prasad, Nitesh Narayan and Bridget Marie finished in a collective time of 2:55 to take first place in the team event.
Anna Cowley, a familiar face from the annual marathon events, having won the women’s marathon 3 times in the last 4 years, and her team ‘Anna, Danna, Ranna +2’ finished second with a collective time of 3:11.
Team Mana, having won the mixed team event in July Mana Island finished in third place – with a time of 3:38 the Suva conditions perhaps having an effect!
Fiji Marathon record holder Binesh Prasad started the race and was on hand to provide some training tips to the runners after the event.
